The Crofton High School Cardinal’s Junior Varsity (JV) women’s soccer team played their first home game ever as a program on Thursday night in their stadium sports complex against a very disciplined and exceptionally well-coached Severna Park squad. This would become a game of two very different halves with CHS in control of the first half and Severna Park the second. CHS sophomore Emily Wingeart (#2) opened the scoring for the Cardinals in the 17th minute and then freshman Nora Snyder (#18) would net the only other goal of the game on an amazing cross from sophomore RJ Garino (#13). The second half saw a relentless attack from Severna Park who dominated play in all phases of the game and put an incredible amount of pressure on the Cardinal back four which was anchored by freshman center back Grace Fay (#16). Freshman keeper Abby Makela (#1) came up huge for the Cardinals in the second half making at least a dozen incredible saves to secure the first clean sheet in history for the women’s program. The Cardinals move to 2-0 on the season and will face Arundel High next Tuesday, March 30th at Arundel at 4PM.
