The Crofton High School women’s JV soccer program closed out their inaugural season undefeated at 7-0-0 this afternoon after an extremely hard-fought 3-0 victory against a talented and well-coached Broadneck team. Despite several shots on goal in the first half, the Cardinals could not find the back of the net until sophomore RJ Garino (#13) broke through the Broadneck defense in the 18th minute to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0. The Cardinals would not score again until just before full time in the 63rd minute when sophomore midfielder Emily Wingeart (#3) found sophomore Meghan Piazza (#4) with a sublime through-ball that Piazza slotted past the Broadneck keeper. The Cardinals would strike again by scoring the final goal of the game just four minutes later in the 67th minute when sophomore forward Sydney Young (#12) found the back of the net. The Cardinal defense, which was anchored by freshman Grace Fay (#16), freshman Caitlin Wingeart (#24), sophomore Mackenzie Cooke (#25), freshman Ally Karner (#9), freshman Sophia Brege (#10), and freshman Kyrah Wheatley (#24), combined with keepers Abby Makela (#1) and Allyson Chelidona (#30) to only allow a single goal all season and strung together six straight shutouts.
